Platelet Rich Plasma

PRP Treatments – Platelet Rich Plasma

PRP is a natural product derived from your own body used to help tissue heal and grow new cells. PRP is processed from a small sample of your blood to produce a plasma that is rich in platelets. The plasma is applied topically, injected or a combination of both to help the tissue heal and regenerate new cells for increased elasticity and improved skin tone while lines and wrinkles soften and recede. The regenerative process resulting from PRP is used as an excellent combination treatment for acne and scar revision as well.

Benefits of PRP Treatments:

Age and environmental stress begin to show on our skin in our 30’s.  With age, the following processes occur:

  • Reactive Oxygen species (ROS) build up as a byproduct of cellular metabolism
  • These ROS damage parts of the cells, including membranes, enzymes and DNA
  • UV light exposure causes thousands of cellular DNA changes every day
  • Environmental pollutants and cigarette smoke further accelerate damage
  • Elastin fibers that give skin its elasticity break down
  • Fat in the subcutaneous layer of skin decreases

What to expect:

  • A small sample of blood is drawn from the patient into a Dr. PRP blood tube.
  • The platelets are then separated from the other blood components and the concentration increased using the Dr. PRP centrifuge.
  • The resulting platelet rich plasma is then injected or applied the treatment areas.
  • The concentrated growth factors contained in the plasma trigger a mild inflammatory response which effectively jump starts the body’s own natural healing process.

PRP Post Care Instructions:

  • Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil for 72 hours. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for at least 24 hours following your treatment.
  • Make sure you only use clean linens and towels during your healing process.
  • Disinfect your cell phone or landline with alcohol wipes before use.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and tepid water to cleanse face and do not use any products with active ingredients for the first 72 hours.
  • Avoid warm environments (i.e., hot tubs, Jacuzzis, steam rooms, hot yoga, saunas) for 3 days post treatment.
  • You will begin to see improvements in the overall texture and tone shortly after your treatment, but the overall effects take up to 3 months, for optimal improvement.
  • It is recommended to have a minimum of 3 treatments, 4 weeks apart for maximum benefits.
  • New collagen formation takes 4-6 weeks to develop; please be patient.
